Been making friends with sewing machine
« on: February 16, 2015, 10:46:26 AM »
Nothing to show yet, but at the weekend I broke out the new iron and ironing board to iron some of the bits of material I'd got and washed.

I also tested all my machine's stitches on a scrap (it was pre-threaded in black) and filled a new bobbin in white, successfully rethreaded it and started overcasting the edges of my fabrics so they don't fray any more. So a little bit of progress! I'm liking it, it is a nice hefty metal Frister & Rossmann with wooden base, does straight and fully adjustable zigzag.

I have tutorials for making drawstring bags once I decide which material to begin with...

Oh, and the thread it came with was Coats Moon, which was working ok, but is rather obviously worse quality than the Gutermann I replaced it with when you look at it.

I love Gutermann - keep your eye out on sales, sometimes you can pick up some colours for 1, I buy it when it's cheap rather than when I need it!  Have fun sewing  Heather  ;D

I loved the Frister Rossman machines when I was at school

Gutterman is a great brand. My favourite brand of thread is amann... I'm unsure if it's just available in Germany or if you can get it in the uk too
