I bought an izettle from Maplin for a 1 off charge (59) and it is great. You then pay a % per transaction fee. You load an app on the iphone (or windows phone) and connect via Bluetooth. You can create a catalog within the app and just pick items and it calculates the total to pay, but I don't use this. I just key in the amount and hand it over for them to put in their pin. You can email a receipt once they have paid. I did get a spare PAYG SIM for another mobile provider and put 10 on it so that if the internet isn't available on my normal provider, I swap the SIM and try that one.

I did look at the ones that plug straight into the iphone, but I believe these are not chip and pin readers - the card holder has to sign on the iphone screen, so I went for the izettle that connects via Bluetooth and needs the PIN.
