Etsy have updated their Seller Handbook blogpost and 'responded' to sellers' comments: they are apparently planning to make it possible to verify customers' locations from 1 January and are looking into the feasibility of letting sellers choose which countries can access instant downloads. I'm not holding my breath on either tbh. Have emailed HMRC and asked for clarification since Etsy's announcement is in direct contradiction to HMRC's own guidance as to what constitutes a 3rd party platform. Have also asked for clarification as to whether I can email attachments to all EU countries and remain exempt. Will keep you posted as to any response I receive  :-\

Do you think Etsy going 'public' will change anything - perhaps we should become shareholders and attend the AGM!

Still no answer from HMRC, will email them again and see whether I can get a reply this time. I'd be much happier if I had something personal that said I was OK to assume Etsy's liability, since Etsy themselves aren't saying anything and there is as yet no sign of the extra seller tools we were meant to be getting in 'early January'. (I suspect 'early' is another of those words like 'handmade' and 'transparent' that has an Etsy-specific meaning that is not the one understood by most of us  ::))
