sorry about the other thread I though I had deleted it
This is a willy old guy who wanted us to drive back about two hrs to return this item which by the way cost almost ?100 for which we paid cash (big mistake I think) he wants to deduct the cost of listing
and now says  return the item by post as it must go through pay pal so he can claim back cost from eBay
my head is battered by all this as I don't know what he will come up with next

If you paid cash it cannot be sorted through Paypal.  I would contact Ebay about this one and get them to give a definitive answer how to sort this.  I use 'chat' as you get a copy of the written transcript at the end.  I think if you collected and paid cash you might have problems getting your money back if he chooses not to pay you; the goods might be considered to be sold as seen and it was for you to check and inspect them before you paid.  This is definitely one for Ebay or a solicitor to advise you on.

Definitely use Ebay chat. They have been very good on the couple of occasions I've needed to contact them.

Thank you for all your help so far but
how on earth do you get onto eBay chat I have been going round in circles for about 30 mins now
It's a crazy world where you can't speak to anyone

Here's the link - the chat option should be on the right hand side.  Good luck.
