See if anybody on the allotment has a rotovator, or hire one hun - it takes the backbreaking work out of it and puts some air back into a heavy clay soil.

I'm going to do it the slow and hard way because there are lots of bramble roots on the plot that a rotovator will chop up into a zillion bits to make a zillion new brambles for later. There's no rush innit ;D

BUT........although you are at the bottom of a slope it means that all those lovely soil nutrients that the upper plot holders spend pounds and hours cultivating filter neatly into yours ;)
